The House

Casa Quirós is a picture-book pretty, traditional stone-built Asturian house that has been recently renovated to a high standard. The house, over 120 years old, is built with huge traditional chestnut beams and has walls made from the local limestone. It has oak and chestnut wooden floors and has been sympathetically updated with granite work surfaces and modern appliances. There is a free WiFi provided and a TV and DVD player.

There are new double glazed windows throughout and heating is via electric radiators in the bedrooms and bathroom and a wood-burning stove in the lounge.

The house has been extended this year to provide a good-sized twin bedroom, in addition to the main double bedroom plus a single room (with potential for an extra cot). There is one bathroom and a large open-plan kitchen-diner-salon. From this level you also access the ‘galeria’ (veranda) – a great spot to take your morning coffee and drink in the views while getting your psyche on for the day ahead.

Outside, there is a large covered porch area which is perfect for outdoor living and dining and it’s particularly useful in the height of summer as a ‘chill out’ area for this south facing property. It has a table, comfortable seating, a sink with hot and cold water and is shaded from the elements.

In front of this there is a small garden with a barbeque. The garden offers stunning views, both of the valley, the crag of Quirós itself and off to the bigger peak of Peña Ubiña (a biosphere reserve). If you’re very lucky (and bring binoculars!) you may even get to spot some brown Cantabrian bears roaming the forested hillside opposite.

While behind the porch is a large, secure storeroom – perfect for keeping bikes, (and doing any maintenance) or storing rucksacks, fishing gear etc There are are couple of bikes included with the property as well as an inflatable boat for use on the lake. The house has a private parking space and there is free wifi.

    Hello,

I would like to rent Casa Quiros for two weeks this coming June. What would be the cost? Also, is there another house near by that we could rent for a second and possibly third family?

    Thanks,

    Adam Brink

    Hello,

We would like to rent Casa Quiros for one week this September. We’re on holidays during the first two weeks and we thought going there between the 2nd to 9th of September, is it still available during that period?
The dates are flexible, within those two weeks.
    Thanks for your help.
    Best Regards,

    Eduardo and Rita

Hi Mark, I have just spoken to a friend who manages various holiday cottages locally and it looks like they have somewhere suitable available for your dates. She is going to send me some information later today and I will forward it to you as soon as I have it. Best, Mary

      Hi Heather,
it’s free for some of that time but we have guests arriving on the 13th of August for 5 days.
So if you could come earlier?
Let me know if that’s of interest or if you have any other questions…

Hola, estaría interesado en alquilar su casa del 1 al 7 de julio, saber si admiten mascotas y si dispone de jardín privado.
    Espero su respuesta.

    Hello Richie!

We bought your guidebook last year, but weren‘t able to travel to your place because of Covid 19.
Therefore we‘d like to visit Asturias this summer.
I just wanted to ask if there are still some bird bans like mentioned in your blog entry from May 2021?
We‘d either stay in Asturias from 12.07. – 30.07 or from 20.08. – 10.09. depending on the bird bans. We both love steep tufa climbing from 6c – 8b.
Is Casa Quiros also available for only 2 people or is it better to look for another apartment or campsite? Can you recommend any places for our stay?

    Many thanks in advance,
    Clemens and Sandra (Tyrol, Austria)

      Hi Clemens,
thanks for the interest in Roca Verde and thanks for buying the guide.

If you are looking for tufas then it may be good to stay a week in La Hermida and a week over in Teverga for example. In La hermida you have crags like Rumenes, El Infierno, Carcalosa and many more with great tufa routes. Then over in Teverga you have Bovedas, Gradura, Planeta X and Pared Negra and close to here there is also El Trasgu, El planchon and Tameza all with really good tufas too. So maybe that combination would be a good idea.

As for the bird bans there is no problem in La Hermida and in Teverga there are no real problems either (maybe one small sector is affected). Outside of Teverga there are still a few problems (which are still a little bit unknown) but to be honest if you are in Teverga for a week there is so much to do that you would not have to leave. Any bans end on July 31st.

      Accommodation
Yes, you can book Casa Quiros for two people and it is free from 11.07 to 25.07 and it is also free from 21.08 August to 10.09 at the moment. The price is 650€ a week.
We also have a new apartment right in the middle of Teverga, Roca Verde Apartment, which is opening soon – this has three bedrooms and has WiFi etc. This is free all of July at the moment and is also free from the 30.08 onwards. The price is 600€ a week.

Let me know if you want to book Casa Quiros or Roca Verde apartments.

I hope that helps. If you need more information let me know.

If you mail me on wildco101@gmail.com it is easier.
