Mountain Biking

The Parque natural de Las Ubiñas-La Mesa, has an amazing amount of off roading and is one of the key areas in Asturias and north west Spain. Casa Quiros is right in the centre of this and there are plenty of rides which pass through the village of Aciera where the house is.

Excited about getting a bit fitter I was disappointed when I talked to the local park warden as he advised me not to take up mountain biking around Quiros as it was too difficult! But, with the Senda del Oso close by which has 45km of off roading which can be done by almost anyone and at the pace to suit then I have a feeling he was mistaking me for some sort of super athlete!!

And when I investigated further on www.wikilocs.com (where the Spanish stores their rides) I found that you can choose from loads of rides, including a 17 mile beautiful and moderate tour of the local area http://en.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=3262779 to a 40 mile ride which takes in some of the toughest terrain around including the Alto de Angiliru  http://en.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=465913

The proximity of the Senda also means there are plenty of bike hire places and indeed you can get bikes repaired and get spares as well.
